Dirt Dont Hurt

I must have been a few months into my role as creative director for the MAG brands. I had been spending a lot of time with the WLF fellows both on and off the bikes. We had become good friends. I enjoyed their unique perspective on the world of riding dirt bikes. A place where competition, back stabbing and shit talking is just the first 5 minutes of a Monday morning coffee conversation. These guys were about inclusivity, getting into gnarly terrain and having a good time. No, nobody was jumping 80ft. triples or winning first place at Glen Helen but they were putting in hundreds of miles in our back yard and having a damn good time doing it. I wanted to showcase their point of view along with others, whom I felt shared the same vision. I somehow convinced Yamaha to supply two WR450’s which we lovingly dismantled and with the creative genus of Iron Cobras Fabrication – were able to build and ride two unique motorcycles up the coast of California to Oregon. The trials and tribulations of that project remain written in the mud on those two bikes we later showcased that week at the One Show in Portland. It was a trip and a group I will never forget.
